We'll be going over one such super food the red jewel of food and nutrition pomegranates.

We'll be discussing what they are how they earn their superfood status and the top seven health benefits that come from pomegranates.

The pomegranate is a fruit that has been a sign of fertility and nutrition.

All throughout history it's best known for its rugged exterior and beautiful red jewel-like and candy-like substance on the inside.

The huge love for pomegranates has the fruit often depicted in art paintings movies and whatnot they're grown in India Mediterranean Asia and some parts of Africa.

So pomegranate is definitely considered a tropical fruit.

The name as we can probably guess comes from the idea that it looks like a grenade hard exterior full of countless little juice bombs on the inside.

Not long ago pomegranates were only used on special occasions because they were tasty but a bit more expensive.

Now discuss some of the health-related properties of pomegranates before going into the actual benefits for us.

Humans first off they're incredibly rich in nutrients.

They're incredibly rich in antioxidants as well in fact pomegranates have three times more antioxidants than things like green tea or wine which are widely known for their antioxidant qualities.

So we can see why this fruit would be getting quite the reputation but what are the health benefits for us.

Benefits

Number 7:

Good for the Brain

As we know red rubies are full of antioxidants.

Eating the fruit and taking in all of these anti-inflammatory nutrients we get a sort of protective layer to our brain from all the damage caused by inflammation.

Just imagine inflammation is a huge fire inside our body almost ready to reach our brain.

The antioxidants are like tiny little firemen who have grouped together to create a wall and are ready to fight off the fire before it reaches.

Studies have shown that some of the antioxidants found in pomegranates are called elegy tannins.

It can help the brain be protected from developing Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease by reducing the oxidative stress taken and protecting as many brain cells as possible.

Number 6:

Antimicrobial effect as with the fireman analogy

Pomegranates also work like little tiny policemen when it comes to harmful microbes and bacteria entering the body many studies have shown that pomegranate juice is effective at targeting unwanted oral germs in our mouth.

It catches the germs while they're still small but these are usually germs that can become quite problematic and overgrown.

Ruby juice also has an antibacterial property against a certain bacteria called listeria monocytogenes which can cause illness.

Eating pomegranates or drinking their juice can help with some disinfection too.

Number 5:

Heart Benefits

Pomegranates are rich in polyphenolic compounds.

There is evidence that all fruits that are rich in these compounds have beneficial effects on the heart.

It all comes back to the antioxidant qualities as it reduces inflammation in the heart and arteries.

Lowers blood pressure and helps fight atherosclerosis which is a buildup in the arteries that can lead to strokes and heart attacks.

It is studied that humans with heart disease were given pomegranate juice every day for a week.

It significantly decreased their chest pain as well as increased certain blood factors to help protect the heart.

It also lower blood pressure would be good enough but perhaps the biggest game changer is the fact that they can fight black buildup which can lead to the biggest heart problems.

Number 4:

Anti-cancer properties

Some studies suggest that the different juices and oils and pomegranates can help slow the spread.

Sometimes even completely destroy cancer cells.

The fruit's inflammation-fighting properties could already help with that but pomegranates specifically have been shown to have anti-tumor effects in breast skin lung and prostate cancer.

In some animals, pomegranate has been shown to slow tumor growth in liver cancer as well.

Some studies have shown that giving men pomegranate juice or extract can significantly slow down the process of PSA(Prostate Specific Antigen) doubling which in turn lowers the risk of losing a life to prostate cancer.

According to some test-tube studies, pomegranate extract is also really effective at slowing down or eradicating cancer cells.

No one is claiming that pomegranates are the cure to cancer, anything that can help should be looked into and this delicious little fruit is definitely one of the hidden helpers.

Number 3:

Improves Athletic Performance

Pomegranates are also really effective in preventing bone loss.

The inflammation-fighting properties of the ruby fruit can have a great effect on preventing cartilage damage and osteoarthritis diseases.

Pomegranates have been shown to help with include osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis and a number of joint issues.

Professional runners usually drink pomegranate juice because it helps their bones and joints better withstand.

The impact of fast-paced running enhances their athletic performance not only that but eating a bunch of pomegranates acts as an oxygen mask.

Getting our body filled with oxygen and helping it travel faster through the blood helps by raising endurance aerobic capacity and overall athletic performance.

So if we're an athlete don't ignore the grenade we'll be getting quite the advantage.

Number 2:

For the Men

Pomegranates are going to become our favorite fruit right now.

There was a study with 50 men who had some problems with erectile dysfunction these men had to drink 8 ounces of pomegranate juice every day for a month.

The results were a staggering 40 of the men reported that they've had a significant improvement in their erection and 10 reported only feeling a slight change.

Number 1:

Inflammation destroyer

As we've already linked to in previous benefits one of the biggest game changers when it comes to health is the fighting of inflammation and pomegranates are really effective at doing so green tea is usually famous for being a great antioxidant.

Pomegranates have three times the antioxidant activity this is perhaps the area where most studies have been done on pomegranates and this is the most scientifically proven benefit of them.

Currently, pomegranates are even used in studies to battle inflammation in patients with covid-19.

This is truly the fruit's biggest quality and can prevent many common diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and so on.

Even Aristotle has noted that pomegranates are highly anti-inflammatory.
